Why did you decide to join NHC?
I wanted to participate in a program that would give me direct patient contact while giving me the opportunity to help underserved, vulnerable populations. I definitely wanted to make a difference during my gap year. I was looking for a place to immerse myself in service to gain some first-hand knowledge about social determinants of health.

What are you hoping to gain or learn during your service term?
I hope to gain more insight into vulnerability, resiliency, and strength from the people I get to work alongside, as well as the clients and patients I get to engage with. I think I’ll learn a lot from shared experiences in NHC, and maybe gain some life advice from patients’ prior experiences.

What are you most looking forward to during your service term? 
I’m looking forward to the bonds and friendships I’ll form with the people I get to work with and the patients I will get to know!
