Hey everyone! My name is Tierney Whelan and I'll be serving as an Outreach Coordinator with Girls in the Game. I grew up in Midlothian, Virginia and recently graduated from Virginia Tech where I studied cognitive and behavioral neuroscience. Following my year with the National Health Corps, I'm interested in enrolling in a master of public health program to study community and behavioral health. In the future, I want to work to improve the quality of life for others through preventative health measures and advocate for communities experiencing major disparities in their accessibility to health services. In my free time, I like to spend time with friends and family, catch up on my favorite Netflix shows, get outside and try new things, and find ways to express myself creatively.
I'm really looking forward to this upcoming year of service and having the chance to connect with people and explore a new city! I hope to learn more about public health issues in Chicago as well as the current ways these problems are being addressed. I also hope to learn more about myself and see how my service can have a positive impact on the community I'm involved with. I'm especially excited to serve with Girls in the Game and have the opportunity to help promote wellness and develop confidence among young girls, which is a mission I feel very passionate about.
