Leah Yingling: See what her favorite memory of the Pittsburgh Health Corps is and how she is impacting her community

What's your most favorite memory of the Pittsburgh Health Corps (PHC) thus far and why?
My favorite memory of this year with the PHC was the exposure to service opportunities outside of my host site (UPMC Shadyside Health Center). For instance, I volunteered at an event with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank for an event to raise hunger awareness. While scraping trays, I met a professor, who shared with me valuable life lessons and a refreshing perspective on life. I think being a part of the PHC has given me exposure to selfless individuals, who have impacted me when I've least expected it.
Are there new projects/initiatives you have partaken in at your site recently?
At my site, I'm currently working on improving feedback to physicians when it comes to diabetes care management. I've found that several initiatives have already been introduced at the clinic, yet little follow-up/feedback is given about patients and their diabetes care managements. It's been my goal to provide direct feedback to residents on diabetes care, because the best diabetes care management is part physician and part patient responsibility.
