Marissa serves as an Asthma Educator at Respiratory Health Assosciation
These were just a few of the goals that Chicago Health Corps and Healthy Communities Corps members had for their recent retreat. Members traveled to YMCA Camp MacLean in Burlington, Wisconsin for a two-day escape from city life!
During the retreat, members from both corps had the opportunity to strengthen team bonds and challenge themselves. First day activities included arts and crafts, a low ropes course, and a competitive kickball game! That night, members ran all over the campground for The Amazing Race—AmeriCorps Edition created by our very own Amber Adams. The day ended with a campfire where members shared embarrassing stories as well as their hopes for the rest of the service term.
The second day was just as action-packed! Members had the opportunity to watch the sunrise, practice yoga, participate in a service craft project, play GA-GA ball, and test their limits on the high ropes course. Throughout the retreat, member relationships were strengthened by a mailbox activity where members wrote anonymous positive notes to each other.
My favorite part of the trip was strengthening my own relationships with CHC and HCC members. It was a great opportunity to engage with fellow members in a relaxed, low-stress environment. Plus, two days full of sunshine, fresh air and trees is enough to refresh even the most tuckered-out member for the last few months of service!
All in all, our Espirit de Corps has never been stronger! Check out even more great pictures from the weekend on our Flickr Page.
