My name is Kristy Stevlingson and I am grateful and excited to be chosen as a National Health Corps member for this upcoming year. I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin with degrees in Biology and Environmental Studies along with a certificate in Global Health. After completing my year of service with AmeriCorps, I plan to obtain a dual masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies and Public Health.
While attending college, I was heavily involved with organizations such as Engineers Without Borders, American Family Children's Hospital, Salvation Army, and Muscular Dystrophy Association. Additionally, I worked as a certified nursing assistant and I worked in a biochemistry research laboratory that focused on antibiotic treatment techniques for premature babies. The culmination of these varying experiences has made me realize the critical importance of helping communities meet their needs. Without proper nutrition, healthcare, education, etc. many community members are not able to thrive. I am eager to be an active part in making these essential resources more readily available for community members in the Chicago area. Throughout this year, I am hoping to broaden my perspective and better understand the socioeconomic and cultural challenges faced within the world of public health.
