NHC Alumni Spotlight: Meet Saba Moussavian!

Posted on: April 25, 2023San Francisco

National Health Corps is a program that has provided an opportunity for future health leaders to learn and grow while providing essential services to marginalized, under-resourced communities in each program's geographic areas. Having been founded in 1994, National Health Corps has an extensive network of alumni that have completed the program and are now supporting health care implementation in different parts of the country. Our Alumni Spotlight campaign is meant to showcase what our alumni have done and are doing since completing the NHC Program!

Saba Moussavian is standing in the center of the frame, facing the camera and smiling. NHC San Francisco is thrilled to spotlight one of our alumni, Saba Moussavian! Saba served in San Francisco's second cohort from 2020-2021, and was part of the program in a time where members were focused almost exclusively on COVID-19 Response and COVID-19 Vaccine Outreach. Saba served as a COVID-19 Responder & Perinatal Coordinator with the San Francisco Department of Public Health's Population Health Management branch. With NHC, Saba learned many skills, primarily Motivational Interviewing and how that directly impacts the quality of service one is able to provide to a patient or client.

Saba currently works as an Outreach Worker & Clinical Coordinator for the Street Outreach Services (SOS) Program at the San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium. Saba explained that "During [her] time as an NHC member, [she] became better versed in city level resources for low-income San Franciscans. [She] participated in collecting, analyzing, and presenting COVID-19 equity data; and [she] served many hours learning how to best be present with and supportive of patients navigating a sometimes unexpected and difficult diagnosis. These experiences prepared [her] to continue to work in community health."

Saba hopes to "work in community health and advocacy in new and evolving capacities," and she leaves members with a piece of advice to "be open to all new experiences; be friends with other cohort members!"

Thank you Saba for everything you have done and continue to do for the communities that need it most, NHC San Francisco appreciates you!
