Position Title: Maternal Health Coordinator
Where are you from?
Calhoun, Georgia
Why did you decide to join NHC?
NHC will provide me with the opportunity to serve minority groups and promote equitable health care access to all. I believe that NHC will allow me to understand disparities in public health and consequently, how they can be overcome to promote equitable access to health care for all. Through my role at NHC, I hope I will be able to give back to the community through interventions aimed at both a micro and macro level. I will have the opportunity to not only support patients, but to also learn from their experiences.
What are you hoping to gain or learn during your service term?
NHC will allow me to develop an interdisciplinary toolkit that I will be able to rely on in my future endeavors. By understanding how the social determinants of health impact individuals in the health care setting, I hope to gain an understanding of not only how the standard of care can be augmented to consider such factors, but also how these inequalities can be mitigated. I believe NHC will allow me to further my professional and interpersonal communication skills and build strong relationships within the community.
What are you most looking forward to during your service term?
I am looking forward to learning about the experiences of patients through interactions as well as furthering my knowledge and experiences in the public health and medical fields. I am also excited to meet other members and learn from their experiences!
