Educational background: Public Health B.S from Furman University
Host Site: UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh
What is your title and role at your host site? Community Health and Prevention Coordinator in the Department of Community Health
Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I joined the National Health Corps because it offers a great opportunity to learn more about public health in action and serve directly in a local community. I am excited to connect with people and help address their health needs. Additionally, I love how National Health Corps gives members a chance to serve alongside other like minded volunteers where we can work together to improve community health.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope to strengthen my ability to connect with people from different backgrounds. I also hope to expand my knowledge of social determinants of health and gain first-hand experience in health promotion.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
After National Health Corps, I hope to attend medical school. On my journey to become a physician, I hope to continue to use health promotion and public health knowledge I have gained to positively impact my patients.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully in 5 years I will be finishing medical school and beginning my first year of residency!
