Hello Chicago! My name is Zach Schreckenberger (he/him/his) and I started in August 2019, I will begin serving as a Patient Navigator at the Illinois Eye Institute Princeton Vision Clinic through the National Health Corps Chicago AmeriCorps program. I am thrilled to be moving to such a dynamic and diverse city and have the opportunity to provide pediatric vision care through a partnership among the Illinois College of Optometry, Chicago Public Schools, and AmeriCorps.
Born and raised in Akron, Ohio (yes, I love LeBron James), I attended The Ohio State University after high school to study Biology. During school, I served my community as a Resident Advisor (RA), worked for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbus, studied abroad in Dakar, Senegal, and became interested in public health, research, community medicine, and pediatrics. This past summer, I finished my Masters in Biomedical Science at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences.
Outside of work and school, I love to cook and try new foods, write poetry, ride my bike, and play an active role in my community. This year, I'm most excited to learn more about pediatric healthcare, the social determinants of health in this unique city, clinical research, and myself. I can't wait to start this year of service with AmeriCorps and continue to grow to be an impactful, global citizen.
