Hello, my name is Luz. As an undergraduate, I majored in Public Health at UC Merced and I have an interest in pursuing a Masters in Public health. I currently serve as a COVID community health and population health representative at Community Medical Centers scheduling physicals, mammograms, cervical cancer screenings, and outreaching at community events for COVID vaccinations. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we serve a large population of immigrant, uninsured, and low-income folk, the majority of which speak a non-English language. The biggest takeaway from my time with NHC is the importance of preventative and primary care in healthy communities. Mind and body wellness are key factors in a person's overall health! Having clinic staff that understands not only the patient's needs but their language and struggles are imperative to having patients reach out to their providers and schedule appointments. 

As an Americorps member, I have had the opportunity to reach so many members of our community and assisted them in receiving the necessary care. I am truly grateful for the experience I have had with my host site and NHC.
