Host Site

Position
Patient Advocate

Where are you from?
I am from Augusta, GA.

Why did you decide to join NHC?
I decided to join NHC to continue serving the Philadelphia community and to get more experience working in a diverse healthcare setting. I attended Bryn Mawr College outside of Philadelphia, and I wanted to stay in the area after graduating. I learned about NHC and thought it would be a great way to contribute to the Philadelphia community while working with diverse populations in healthcare.

What are you hoping to gain or learn during your service term?
I am hoping to learn more about how to serve diverse communities and how to be an advocate for these groups. I would like to learn about the oppressive structures and systems in healthcare that marginalize certain groups and how we as public health leaders can make positive changes to contribute to equity for all.

What are you most looking forward to during your service term?
During my service term, I am most looking forward to connecting and building relationships with my fellow NHC members and the patients I serve at my host site. I am also looking forward to exploring Philadelphia by going to concerts and performances and trying out new foods and
restaurants.
