The mission of the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP) of UPMC is to improve the health and well-being of children, youth, young adults, and families through:
- Accessible health care services in the context of their families, cultures, and communities
- Interdisciplinary health care education for health professional trainees and practitioners as well as children, youth, young adults, families, and communities
- Research to increase understanding of disparities in health, promote health equity, and improve health outcomes for children, youth, young adults, and families
- Engagement with children, youth, young adults, and families in their communities as allies and advocates
The program is designed to serve Pittsburgh communities in which Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults experience disparity in health care with a focus on groups which are particularly marginalized, including low income, rural, urban, and food insecure groups.
The values and guiding principles which define its standards:
Putting patients and families first through quality and safety; dignity and respect; caring and listening; responsibility and integrity; and excellence and innovation.
